Sierra de la Giganta Ride or Hike (and Extended)

vaquero and animals at a pool, drinking

This route stays in the mountain range that is west of Loreto. The route leaves from a canyon populated by a local family whose ranches have road acces… but soon we hit the trail into a canyon that has place names like El Potrero, Ultima Agua, and Las Golondrinas. The wide canyon has flowing water in places and offers great camping and swimming for a mid-March trip.

The old trails leading to the Golondrina ridge were used in the past by a lone cowboy who would ride his mule over the ridge and down to the highway north of Puerto Escondido. Then he would hitchhike into town to trade oranges for supplies, get back to his mule and pack donkey and head home again up and over the steep trail, back to his hermitage-paradise

Join us for either a 4-day trip or a 6-day trip. On the Extended version we will continue south into other canyons and visit friends at remote ranches. Recommended that riders join the Extended trip. Contact us for more details.

Included: guides, group camp gear, tents, mules and pack-animals (if you hike you just need to carry your day pack, donkeys do the rest) Dinners and breakfasts on the trail (BYOLunch). Let us know if you need to rent a sleeping bag or pad. Not included: Transportation to/from the trailhead; tips for guides.

Buen Viaje and we'll hope to see you again in Baja!
